SoundCloud Acquires Repost Network To Ease Music Distribution


Just recently, Spotify announced the platform will not move forward with its direct upload beta system for artists. Fear not — because SoundCloud is here to save the day! SoundCloud’s accusation of Repost Network means artists will have the power to distribute their own releases. With this, SoundCloud will be able to offer creators “seamless upstream” to Repost Network’s invite-only tools and services. Streaming distribution, analytics, content protection and more at the artist’s fingertips.

In a statement, SoundCloud’s Chief Operating Officer Michael Weissman expands:

There are more than 20 million audio creators on SoundCloud, and we know building audiences and earning income from streaming are critical to them. SoundCloud’s focus is to build more tools and services to solve those needs. We’ve built the foundation with our SoundCloud Premier program and our recently launched distribution product, and today we are taking another step forward. The acquisition of Repost Network will meaningfully move SoundCloud forward as we build the most comprehensive set of tools to help creators build their careers. We welcome the Repost Network team to SoundCloud and are excited about what we will build together.

At the end of this month, Spotify will cease the acceptance of new uploads through Spotify for Artists. Users must migrate their music to other distributors over this month to avoid any gaps and keep play counts intact. This is a mandatory step to ensure that your music isn’t completely absent from the platform.
