The Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival recently revealed details of its inaugural release. The festival will be held from August 16 to 18, 2019 at Bethel Woods, on the site of the original Woodstock Festival in 1969. However, BWMCF is in no way affiliated with Woodstock Ventures, LLC. Although this festival has been widely referred to as Woodstock's 50th Anniversary Festival, it's a bit of a misnomer to call it so.
Michael Lang, producer and co-creator of the original Woodstock Festival in 1969, produces the "official" birthday, but it will not take place at Bethel Woods.
In a statement sent to the media this morning, Lang states, "The original Bethel site is important to us, but it no longer has the ability to organize a real Woodstock festival. . I am delighted that Bethel Woods is organizing events over the coming year to celebrate what we have brought to light in 1969 and I encourage people to visit the museum and the concert hall. "
Over the next few weeks, Lang will soon announce his plans for the "real" 50th Woodstock festival, in order to bring back the essential spirit and energy of the original of 1969.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Lang Festival will have the energy to overthrow BWMCF after an already powerful presence in the media and a reference to a 50th anniversary festival.
