Pat McGrath Moonlit Seduction Mothership Eyeshadow Palette

Moonlit Seduction

Pat McGrath Moonlit Seduction Mothership Eyeshadow Palette is the newest addition to the Mothership collection, and it features three matte hues and seven shimmer colours (which ranged from metallic to intensely shiny and sparkly). Previously, the final two colours in each row were domed and termed “special” shades; however, while the shades in these locations in this palette are titled similarly to previous “special” shades, they are not domed.

They looked comparable when applied, but the texture was more loosely-pressed, nearly dry at points, and hence sheerer and more prone to fallout. I’ve used these particular colours without a sticky foundation and with brushes, but I found that the Astral shades in this palette really needed an adhesive basis to perform successfully. When applied to my lid, the base seemed to have less glide and natural smoothness, yet the four “special” hues had a higher amount of shine than previous “special” shades.

The matte and metallic colours were true to the brand’s formula: pigmented, blendable, and long-lasting!

Skintense Glow

Skintense Glow is a very light gold with warm yellow undertones and a delicate pink contrasting pearl for a metallic shine.

Opaque coverage
Slightly soft feel but smooth, easy to pick up
Blendable, applied evenly
Long-wearing (10 hours)

Rosewood Romantique

Rosewood Romantique is a warm, subdued medium plummy brown with a matte sheen.

Opaque coverage
Smooth, velvety, not powdery
Applied and blended out well
Very long-wearing (9.5 hours)

Platinum Dusk

Platinum Dusk is a deeper pewter with subdued olive undertones and a glittering, metallic texture that was shiny but smooth (smoother in practice than the swatch might imply).

Opaque coverage
Smooth, lightly emollient, more loosely-pressed
Blendable, applied evenly
Very long-wearing (9.5 hours)

VR Sextasy

VR Sextasy is a deep, reddish-brown foundation with changing blue-to-purple shimmer and pearl. It had a great amount of shine and reflection, which distinguished it apart from others like it (this style of duochrome is very, extremely done).

Nearly opaque coverage, though base seemed slightly translucent
Overly soft, fairly smooth, use with lighter hand
Light fallout, best applied with fingertip initially
Long-wearing (9 hours with light fallout)

Astral Gold Lust

Astral Gold Lust has a translucent foundation with bits of glitter ranging from deeper copper to lighter peachy-gold, with a little transition as it went darker and more orange-copper to light, golden peach. The finish was very shiny—arguably brighter than previous Astrals and yet extremely sparkly—but there was notably more fallout and a bit of “dryness,” with less of a glide in the base. I’ve been able to use previous Astral hues without an adhesive spray or sticky foundation, but this palette’s Astrals required it.

Xtreme Nocturne

Xtreme Nocturne is a matte deep taupe with a grey overtone and a warmer, reddish-brown undertone.

Opaque coverage
Smooth, velvety, not powdery
Applied and blended out well
Very long-wearing (9.5 hours)

Bronze Devotion

Bronze Devotion is a rich, medium golden bronze with warm undertones and a metallic sheen.

Opaque coverage
Smooth, lightly emollient, creamy to touch
Blendable, applied evenly
Very long-wearing (10 hours)

Plum Cabaret

Purple Cabaret is a matte medium plum with faint, warmer pink undertones.

Opaque coverage
Smooth, velvety, not powdery
Applied and blended out well
Very long-wearing (9.5 hours)

Blitz Venus is a bright pink copper with warm undertones and a high-shine, metallic sheen.

Astral Lilac Aura

Astral Lilac Aura has a transparent foundation with medium-sized sparkle particles that are very faintly lavender and colder in tone. It could have had a more emollient foundation, which would have let it adhere better on its own, but it had a really wet-like sheen that most other formulations don’t attain.

Astrals’ coverage has traditionally been less pigmented, but they have ranged from sheer (like this) to more medium coverage, but the company seldom calls out the sheerness—so this scored lower as a consequence, but if you enjoy sheerer glitter hues, you could appreciate this.

Semi-sheer coverage, best applied over tacky base
Soft, more prone to fallout, slightly dry
Best applied with fingertip over tacky base for evenness
Somewhat long-wearing but had some fallout over time (8 hours)
