The year 1962 was significant in the cinematic world because it saw the launch of the James Bond franchise, which has since issued 25 films, beginning with Dr. No and ending with No Time to Die. Throughout 007’s brilliant career, the British secret agent has evolved from a fictitious character to a lifestyle in which even cinematic components have become as legendary as the man himself.
One would be remiss if they did not mention the Aston Martin DB5 among the various things that have appeared in films. The car debuted in Goldfinger and has since appeared in seven additional Bond films: Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die. However, among the various films, GoldenEye has an unique place in the hearts of luxury timepiece Omega.
The Omega Seamaster Diver Professional wristwatch has featured on the wrists of James Bond characters portrayed by Pierce Brosnan and later Daniel Craig, who has been an advocate of the company during his stint in the role of 007 from 1995. Moneypenny, played by Naomie Harris, also joined the Omega family and is characterized as “delivering both elegance and female empowerment on and off screen.”
The choice of casting Omega the Bond watch came from Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming who said, “I was convinced that Commander Bond, a naval man, a diver, and a discreet gentleman of the world would wear this watch.” And the rest is history. More recently, the current US President Joe Biden has on several occasions seen wearing an Omega.
A fresh new Seamaster was unveiled this week to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the James Bond series. The clock, dubbed the “Seamaster Diver 300m 60th Anniversary Edition,” is a steel watch with no date display and a mesh band. What distinguishes this watch is its design style, which is reminiscent of the first-ever Seamaster shown in GoldenEye. The new watch is a mix of vintage and 90s styling codes, with an anodized aluminum blue bezel, an aluminum blue dial, and the characteristic laser-engraved wave pattern. The typical bezel pip or triangle at 12’o clock displays the number “60,” a reference to the 60th anniversary.
There are two versions available: Stainless Steel and Canopus Gold. The Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 powers the former, while the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8807 powers the latter. The gold version’s dial is studded with crystallites that pay reference to the Jamaican flag – Ian Fleming’s estate in the country — and is crafted by the manufacturer’s 18K Canopus Gold.
Finally, the final tribute to the James Bond series is presented on the caseback. The film’s classic opening sequence, which features Bond in silhouette and a rotating gun barrel design, is recreated by laser-engraving a single disk.

“Our cooperation with EON Productions and James Bond is something completely unique inside watchmaking,” stated Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of Omega. It’s an opportunity to be creative and have fun while displaying our flair and dependability. On occasions like today, we enjoy bringing that cooperation to life.
“It’s been a thrill for me to work with Omega in all the films since Casino Royale,” said Daniel Craig, who played James Bond in five films. James Bond is a figure who prefers the finest of everything, so it’s only natural that he’d wear something as gorgeous and reliable as an Omega.”
