The Chanel Fall 2020 show, which took place at the Grand Palais during Paris Fashion Week kick-started with an emotional moment of silence to pay tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld, followed by the resounding voice of the designer talking about fashion. With the growing health concerns all over the world, for the first time ever, Chanel’s runway show was streamed live online.
For the Chanel Fall 2020 show, Virginie Viard sprinkled motifs of the winding River Seine into her runway set. This was done with white curvy platforms that mirrored the river’s banks and a crystal clear water-like reflection runway.
From the look of the collection, it was clear to see that Virginie is redefining ready-to-wear with the Chanel brand. The Fall 2020 collection was an understated definition of monochromatic elegance in a colour palette made up of black, white and grey, with pops of kiwi green, hot pink and red.
To further drive home the wearability of the looks and the essence of the show, some of the models came out in groups as they were casually strolling, laughing and “gisting” down the runway. According to Virginie, “the show is about friendship, about women supporting each other.”
The Chanel Fall 2020 collection came with some youthful vibes as it featured shorts with crop tops and layers of jewellery, cosy sweatpants that buttoned down the leg, high-waisted shorts, knit bandeaux tops, two-toned riding boots, pirate knee-high boots, plaid wool trousers, matching maxi coats, warm knits and fedoras.
