Kygo shares his first new release of 2021 with “Gone Are The Days” featuring James Gillespie. The deep cut production lingers in a reflective space about missing the signs of a love that’s right in front of you. There’s no happy ending here — but the subject finds strength to move forward as Gillespie sings out, “You don’t know how but you carry on.”
Kygo builds a theatrical world around Gillespie’s vulnerable vocal performance, through a lush soundscape of lingering piano chords, heavy impacts, pads and strings. Ultimately, “Gone Are The Days” finds its own perfect balance based in storytelling and emotion. The producer kept busy through 2020, first with his Avicii Tribute song, “Forever Yours” featuring Sandro Cavazza, followed up by a number of collaborative Golden Hour tracks and the album’s full release. He also revitalized dance floor classics, Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff.”
Kygo says he’s “excited for a new chapter of music.” Per the request of his fan base, the producer will also be releasing more piano songs moving forward, starting with “Gone Are The Days” (Piano Version).
