How does Phase 1 of Ultra 2019 compare to the last four years?

The Phase 1 range for Ultra 2019 has just fallen and it's huge! With Marshmello, The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix and Zedd as headliners, as well as new names Rezz, Zeds Dead, and NGHTMRE ] making their debut on the main stage, next year promises to be another great year for Ultra Music Festival.

But how does it compare to the last four years of Ultra?

Well, let's start with the obvious: Ultra plays the favorites. Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta and Tiësto will never play Ultra. The same goes for many artists of the resistance: The Martinez brothers are back, just like Maceo Plex Jamie Jones and Joseph Capriati, Loco Dice, ] and Sasha + John Digweed . We assume that Hardwell would also play in 2019 if he had not made the decision earlier this year to take a break from the live shows for a while.

However, even though Ultra plays the favorites, they also like throwing curved balls. In 2015, Skrillex came on the main stage and Martin Garrix played it for the first time in his career. Die Antwoord, Deep Dish, Porter Robinson, Kygo, and Bassnectar were also among the fans' favorites. In 2016, Pendulum live made his return, plus Rabbit in the Moon . 2017 was by far the weakest of the last four years for the main stage, but the scene was surprisingly impressive: Ice Cube, Justice, The Prodigy, and Underworld .

Then, in 2018, Ultra brought the mafia of the Swedish House, Marshmello and The Chainsmokers to the forefront of the main stage and Virtual Self dominated the live stage.

So, how does 2019 behave? Well, aside from the range, there are a lot of unknown variables this year. Most important of all is that we have no idea what the new scenes will be. With the new venue, this opens up a lot of possibilities, including a bigger live stage. It would not make much sense to place Odesza in that tiny amphitheater of Bayfront Park. But a new live scene with an unknown capacity? Now, it's something that Ultra can work with.

In addition, deadmau5 will debut with his Cube 3.0 for the first time, Illenium will play Ultra for the first time, Griz will play Ultra for the first time, and there is still much to announce.

In addition, Jeffrey Sutorius made his solo debut after a break with Dash Berlin.

As for the main stage's headliners in 2019, Gez Vibrations, Rezz, Dead Zeds and NGHTMRE & Slander finally present their chance. However, the decision to bring the Chainsmokers and Marshmello back to the main stage for the second year in a row is debatable; it goes without saying that their sets will be quite similar to those of this year. Much of Chainsmokers' 2018 series features IDs from their new Sick Boy album, including unpublished collaborations with NGHTMRE and Aazar. Now that they are out, what new music will they grow? As for Marshmello, he has released a lot of new music in 2018, but you can not go out Will Smith two years in a row. And he is also a great chameleon DJ, playing everything the audience wants to hear. In a sense, its plateaus will never go bad, but there is not much experimentation there either.

With other artists still announced, we are enthusiastic and optimistic about the state of the 2019 Ultra. However, with respect to Phase 1 and its results over the last four years, this is a powerful candidate for the best of the category. Discover below the list of the last four years of phase 1, as well as this year.
