For the first time since compact discs arrived in the music industry, the Grammy of 2018 included nominees for the Album of the Year that completely skipped the format . This includes Cardi B 's Invasion of Privacy and H.E.R. ', the first self-titled album, released respectively on Atlantic and RCA.
The two artists decide to snub CD releases for streaming and download. Interestingly, Cardi B and H.E.R. have also made their albums available on vinyl.
The CDs were introduced for the first time in 1982 and entered the Grammy Album of the Year category in 1984.
According to Nielsen Music, CDs accounted for 90% of album sales in the United States in 2007. This is comparable to last year's figure, which is only 18%.
CDs do not die completely, but it is quite possible that technology will become a novelty similar to vinyl records; even if vinyl is currently enjoying a resurgence of popularity, who can say so.
