Belonging to an important and invisible private collection for 25 years, a prototype of the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB will be auctioned off. The 275 GTB is one of the most sought-after Ferraris of a brand of which almost all the models are posters for the childhood. With its beautiful body Scaglietti and racing pedigree, the 275 GTB stands out even in a garage full of Ferrari.

The “drone” perfect for a collection of engines

Today, the 275 GTB and its variants are among the most iconic, collectable and valuable Ferrari, but that auctioned on Gooding & Company is not a typical 275 GTB . With only about 250 copies made during its production, it is the first 275 GTB ever built and the test mule prototype for the entire series. Featuring the traditional Ferrari chassis, the 06003 is the very first example built. It includes the modernized long nose bodyshell, the independent rear suspension system and the transaxle mounted at the rear.

The car participated in the 35th annual Monte Carlo Rally in January 1966 and underwent major modifications: a redesigned hood, rallying lights and “Giallo Prototipo (Prototype Yellow)” paint on a black coating .

Driven by rally driver Giorgio Pianta and driven by Roberto Lippi, the public was treated to an incredible view of a yellow 12-cylinder Ferrari berlinatta sporting the number 43. Pianta remembers his driving experience the 06003 as “the most beautiful memory of all” of [his] life.

Restored to almost exactly like the 1966 Monte Carlo Rally, this unique 275 GTB is a landmark in the history of Ferrari. It retains its corresponding numbering engine, stamped 06003, with various marks of chalk and stamping on the course that attest to its crowning status as the first builder of this type.
