Fendi artistic director Kim Jones has collaborated with Kim Kardashian West and her loungewear brand, Skims, to release a capsule collection. Announced on Monday (October 25), the collection features shapewear, lingerie, swimwear, outerwear, and accessories. The two have come together to unify their aesthetic codes to create looks that cater to the modern woman. The collection is based on Karl Lagerfeld’s 1979 archival Fendi collection. It combines the form-fitting pieces of Skims’ shapewear and Fendi’s lexicon. Colourways include a wide range of neutral shades, black, military green, and daring fuschia. The pieces are meticulously crafted into bonded leather dresses that provide a statuesque look inspired by ancient Romans.
Jones revealed the idea was inspired by his team at Fendi, including Silvia Venturini Fendi, artistic director of accessories and menswear, and Delfina Delettrez Fendi, artistic director of jewellery. According to Jones, he knew he wanted to do a collaboration with Kardashian West when, during a Fendi meeting, all of the women at the table stopped to look at their phones awaiting a Skims release. Pieces featured in the collection are form-fitting tops and dresses crafted from engineered velvet. There’s also a reversible jersey with both brands’ logos, embossed knitwear, printed one-piece swimsuits, and see-through lingerie.
The Fendi x Skims range is complemented by new versions of the Peekaboo, Baguette, and Fendi First bags, as well as the Sunshine Shopper covered in FF logos. Since helming the Roman fashion house, Jones has been rejuvenating the image of the brand. Another example of a star-studded collaboration is during the most recent Milan Fashion Week, where he and Donatella Versace orchestrated a creative swap called “Fendace” for their pre-fall 2022 show. The Fendi x Skims collection drops on November 9 on the Fendi x Skims website and is also available at select Fendi flagship stores and retailers worldwide.
