The restaurant, which is 1,700 square feet in size, was designed by culinary entrepreneur Andy Nguyen, who is recognized for his innovative cuisine concepts. According to Hypebeast, Nguyen paid USD$267,000 for Bored Ape #6184 and two Mutant Apes in March to gain access to the IP ownership rights and community offered to NFT holders.
Nguyen built a pop-up restaurant based on Bored Ape #6184 with Kevin Seo and the Bored Ape community. Afters Ice Cream, Matte Black Coffee, Pig Pen Delicacy, Portside Fish Co., Dough & Arrow, Banh Xeo Boys, and Happy Hours Group are all co-founded by Nguyen.
The purpose, according to co-owner Nguyen, is to give back to the burgeoning Web 3.0 community and offer doors to people interested in learning more about the new Web 3/NFT environment. “It is our responsibility to educate the general population about this new future reality.” Also, demonstrate that you can turn this IP into a brand/business. “It takes away the stigma of ‘It’s just a jpg,'” Nguyen noted.
Crowds of people from all walks of life lined 7th Street, as predicted. According to Decrypt, both Seo and Nguyen expect that the excitement and intrigue around NFTs would help the pop-up compete against nearby franchises such as McDonald’s.
In collaboration with Houston rapper Bun B’s Trill Burgers and SoCal vegan fast-food brand Beleaf Burgers, the Bored & Hungry eatery will be open for 90 days. Bored Ape Yacht Club members will receive free dinners, while Mutant Ape Yacht Club members will receive free burgers. Token gating will be used for verification.
According to reports, Nguyen and his business partner Seo will debut the Food Fighters Universe (FFU) NFT collection in May, which will be the world’s first NFT-backed restaurant group. The collection aims to use Web3 to solve difficulties that the food and beverage sector is now facing.
