By the end of 2018, we are reviewing some of the biggest news of the year. We would be negligent if, in so doing, we failed to mention Datsik and the charges of sexual misconduct against him. Even now, nine months later, it's hard to understand how all this happened in the media whirlwind that followed.
To date, no formal charges have been brought against Datsik, his real name, Troy Beetles.
On March 14, the initial charges were made public via Twitter by the user @_princesssjay. Sharing a series of screenshots, the Internet quickly took matters into its own hands and became a court of public opinion. At the time of #MeToo, accusations of this nature are taken more seriously than ever before – and with the power of social media behind empowered women and allies, defendants can often see their lives destroyed before they even know what is happening.
Most of the charges involved the use of ketamine in order to get women to sleep with him. One of the other salient details of the charges is the "TULSA" pass that was given to women, supposed to be read as "a slut" on the back.
Later the same day, Datsik issued an apology – in a way.
"I am an atmospheric reader, I go out with a ton of people after each show and I always keep a positive atmosphere. […] You should know that the tour is a safe area for all of us. […] I do not tolerate this kind of behavior and I care about every person I meet, the real one. I know it's a sensitive subject and I'm also a sensitive guy, so tell me what you need, but honestly, I want you to know that this shit represents the world for me. […] I will make an extra effort to ensure that nothing I do will be misinterpreted in the future. "
It did not go well.
The dance community, fans and other producers, react with intense derision and vitriolization to the news, and begs Datsik to recognize the accusations and address them directly. Even his long-time friend, Excision, did not have his back turned.
"In light of the allegations against other names in the industry, I wish to make it clear that I neither support nor tolerate any of the behaviors mentioned in the stories circulating today. hui. "
By the end of the first day, Space Jesus had completed his tour with the Ninja Nation.
The next day, Carbin and Riot Ten also finished the tour. Later in the day, Datsik canceled all remaining tour dates. Also later in the day, the management, the label and the booking agency of Datsik have all abandoned.
Note again that at this stage no formal charges have been brought against Datsik.
Two days after the initial announcement, Ephwurd, a duo previously composed of Datsik and Bais Haus, announced that Bais Haus would continue the project without Datsik, although this project was also stricken from its management.
Within a week, people had stopped talking about Datsik, but the damage was done. His career was catastrophic, his friends abandoned him and all his social media pages went silent. A previous tour of Datsik has been turned into a fundraiser for rape victims, all proceeds being donated to the rape victim defense program of the user interface.
Ephwurd intervened again only four months later, emitting a new song.
"As for the charges against Troy, he's not the guy I know. Coming to mutual agreement to remove him from the project was a heartbreaking day for me, but it had to be done. I respect his decision to remain private and wish him the best. "
In October, private messages exchanged between Datsik and some supporters were made public, suggesting that he was planning to return in one way or another.
To a loyal fan, he writes, "I'm really grateful to be able to rely on people like you to help me keep my head up in the dark times. It's hard in the last six months, but through all of that, I've become sober and I've been working on a ton of new music. Thank you for your continued support, it really means the world to me! "
On the other hand, he speaks of a potential return: "No plan for the moment, but I will!"
Datsik has not had news since and his social media accounts have been silent.
